Art Basel Miami Beach
1 - 4 December 2016
For its fifth consecutive year of attending Art Basel in Miami Beach, Tornabuoni Art will be presenting a selection of works from the 1950s to the present day by leading Italian artists including Lucio Fontana, Alberto Burri, Turi Simeti, Enrico Castellani, Alberto Biasi, Alighiero Boetti, Paolo Scheggi and Francesca Pasquali.
The booth will feature a journey through Italian culture from the Post-War period to the present day. The Italian artistic scene of the mid-20th and 21st centuries has focused its research on the expansion of the traditional parameters of Painting through the use of non-traditional materials or by opening up monochromatic canvases to the third dimension. This conceptual research lead to the adoption of powerful and gestural artistic techniques such as puncturing, slashing and cutting the surface of the painting, as well as the alteration of the very structure of the canvas by revisiting the shape of its support. Along with the use of handcrafted embroidered fabrics and of ‘found’ or mundane objects, this allowed the artists on show on Tornabuoni Art’s booth to play with the dimensionality of the artwork and thus invite the viewer to take part.
